Since Greece was once part of the Ottoman Empire what effect did that have on Greece? Did it cause alot of Greece to have something Middle Eastern about it like the music, the food, the way Greek people look or did Greece manage to remain the way they always were and it isnt really visible?

Is it a really bad place for backpackers. I really want to go when I go backpacking this summer but I heard something about Greece natives being infamous for mugging backpackers and in the couple of the stories I’ve read about backpacking the characters have ALWAYS gotten mugged or robbed there. Next summer I will be going to Italy (Rome, VC, Capri, Pompeii, maybe Florence) and Greece (Delphi, Athens, maybe some Greek Islands). I’ll be going with EF Tours.
It’ll be 13 days long and I’m wondering how much money I would need for things like snacks and souvenirs.
(Note: This is just for extras, not for flight or hotel)

For anyone who’s been to those places, how much money would you recommend me bringing? And how much is a US dollar worth in Italy and Greece?
