I have to have six dishes of foods from Greece. Do you know of any very popular or easy-to-make Greecian foods?

Moussaka or souvlaki. Then call me when it is ready.
    I’ll do the dishes afterwards.
If you make a feta cheese omelet, do not add salt, and don’t bother to call me.

Spanakopita is pretty easy to make and you can serve it in little triangles so that everyone can try it. Also,Moussaka is good. Google both of these for recipes! :)

A Greek salad would be pretty simple. But then again, baklava sounds good too (dessert).

The easiest is the Greek salad. Slice and dice tomatoes, red onions, cucumbers and bell peppers. Crumble up some feta cheese and drizzle a little olive oil over it. Salt and pepper on the side.

Look in the phone book for a Mediterranean market. Buy some stuffed grape leaves. They aren’t as good as home made, but a whole lot easier to come by.

The same is true of the true Greek dessert, baklava.

You can easily find recipes on line for stuffed peppers and stuffed tomatoes. The peppers are easiest. You cut the tops off and stuff them with rice you’ve soaked for half an hour or so and mixed with oregano, olive oil and a bit of onion. You can also crumble some ground beef or lamb and add to the stuffing. Cook in a 325 degree oven for about half an hour or so and enjoy. You’ve got to be really careful with tomatoes because they get mushy if you over cook them.

When I was last in Greece, they ate French fries like they were going out of style. Sprinkle them with oregano, the Greek national herb, and there you go.

Pastitsio is a sort of Greek lasagna. It takes a while to make it, but it’s not too difficult. You will need to go back to that market to get the right kind of pasta. After that, all you need is the ingredients for the sauce and some ground meat.

Horta is the Greek vegetable of choice. It’s just greens like chard and spinach. After you’ve cooked the greens, put on salt and pepper, olive oil and lemon juice. This isn’t my favorite, but it’s OK.

Souvlaki is barbecued meat cubes. You can use beef, pork or lamb or even chicken. Cut the meat in cubes, put it on skewers and sprinkle with salt, pepper oregano and lemon juice. Cook the meat and enjoy. This is my favorite.

The Greeks also eat a ton of seafood, but that’s messy and not always easy to cook. I like the barbecued octopus…really! But it’s way too hard to make.

Whatever you find, your taste buds will think you’ve died and gone to heaven. Greek food is good.

    Kala orixe….. Good eating

    Chicken souvlaki

    Serve the chicken souvlaki with:
    Tzatziki Sauce

    Greek Salad

    Spanikopita

    Moussaka

    Greek Yoghurt and Fruit Salad

    Greek Baklava

    Baked Feta
