You can try AFS
or if your family is member of Rotary Club, you can also become an exchange student

Your family does not need to be a member of Rotary to be a Rotary exchange student. Call your local Rotary Club and they can give you the contact information for the Youth Exchange Coordinator. Rotary’s a great program, as is AFS.

The first thing you need to do is look at a program that operates in Greece. Not all do! Also, make sure the program is CSIET listed (www.csiet.org). Reliable programs tend to be AFS, Aspect, Rotary, YFU. You should check the sites of those first. Also, check with your school counselor for a recommendation — I can guarantee there are programs in the “burbs of Chicago”! LOL
As to the cost, it varies by program. A good average would be $5,000-$8,000 depending up on length of stay, program, personal expenses, etc. Rotary is the cheapest, but most competitive. I’m also not sure if Rotary has a program where you can stay with family members.
On that point, many programs do. It’s usually called “direct placement” or something similar. How it works is when you apply to the program, on your application there is generally a line that indicates whether you have a place in your country of choice to stay. You fill in your family’s name and address there. Now, on the other end, they need to apply to be a host family. On their application, it will ask if there is a certain student — that would be you. Viola! It’s done. Direct placements also almost always guarantee program acceptance if the student and host family meet the program qualifications.
You don’t say when your senior year is, but if you are looking at going next year, you need to get with the program ASAP — it may already be extremely late.

Good luck!
