Ellie A asked:
So I want to begin beginners diving lessons and hopefully move forward from there and I used to be a gymnast for 8 years. I am not afraid to jump from the 3m or the 1m, i am just scared to do any sort of dive from the 3m. How do i get over this fear?
Also, during beginner diving classes is it usually a requirement to dive from the 3m?
Thanks!

just think what it will lead to in the end.
think who you are doing it for when you are diving and when you do.. treat yourself.

sit down and dive first
or watch other people doing it and realise nothing is going to happen to you
hope you do it

Well, coming from a competitive spring board diver, the 3meter does seem high at first. Normally in lessons they will have you do this thing called a front line up, which is usually bending at the wast and just falling in headfirst to your hands. I’m sure if you ask your coach will spot you on this to help you out. Also, it is normally a requirement to do to a front and back dive from 3 meter to join the team from lessons (or at least it is for my club diving team). But don’t worry, coaches are normally very patient and will let you get really comfortable with these dives on 1 meter as well as letting you get comfortable with jumps on 3 meter. As for getting over the fear of 3 meter, it truly comes naturally and you eventually will get it. It’s just taking the time and telling yourself “i can do this” but don’t worry ever great diver has their moments and with being a gymnast for 8 years, diving will come naturally to you! you’ll be great my friend!
